yes the Gigabyte does seem better in that respect otherwise its a toss-up.
The Asus still has a firewire port :-) and a few more usb3's.
These must be fairly recent products as I didn't find many reviews...

Plus, I'm a gigabyte user myself, and they've always been rock-solid for me. I currently have a Gigabyte and an EVGA, both are great "performance" motherboards.

FWIW, last year, had got a 12Gb pack (3x4gb) and after a while added another of the same, with no problem at all. If the mobo has the small version listed in its RAM supported list it should support the big one too.

Keep in mind with high-performance Ram at those quantities, you'll want to manually set your timings or enable XMP in your bios.. it won't be "completely" plug - n- play.
