| I have two MacPro3,1 with all 8 slots filled. I never heard anything about keeping open slots. But, I have read that you should install matching pairs. Mixed manufacturers and sizes is ok, but they should be the same type. They make 8GB sticks now? You should check if they're compatible. I think my 3,1 will only take up to 4 GB sticks.
