The Color Control is expecting a 4-value array of numbers between 0 and 1
to specify the red,green,blue, and alpha values (example: [1,1,0,1] gives you
bright yellow).
I think to get what you’re after, you’d have to apply the Colorama effect
to a layer and use sampleImage() in your Color Control expression to pick up the
color.

Colorama? Would appreciate some guidance here as I attempt to learn more about expressions. Can I link the Color Control expression to the Colorama effect set up on a null layer in AE (CS5.5)? I have successfully setup a single Color Control expression effect on a null layer to change the stroke colors of 5 animated shape layers on 5 separate layers over video clips in a 1:30 sec sequence. I can manually key frame the single Color Control on the null to change the colors of all the shape layers over time in the sequence. However instead, I would like to
link the Color Control to cycle through more rapid color shifts on the shape
layers using the Colorama effect.
I have placed a Colorama effect under the Color Controller effect in the same null layer. This creates the following expression: temp = effect(“Colorama”)(“Phase Shift”); [temp, temp, temp, temp] Haven’t come across ‘temp’ in the expression list: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0/WS3878526689cb91655866c1103906c6dea-79f8a.html Tried placing values in the expression as this example temp = effect(“Colorama”)(“Phase Shift”) [0, 350, 0, 350] results in a green color in the Color Control and the shapes but does not change the color over time.
So what is the expression telling
