The first thing i check when exporting a 3d camera from Softimage to AE, is that i have the same FOV value, and both are measured horisontally. This is what normally goes wrong for me if the camera doesn't translate correctly into AE.

I've had some times where the camera lens information came in screwed up. It seems like it swapped some values or something. I don't recall it being too big of an issue to correct if you can open the maya scene and cross reference the camera lens and filmback parameters over to the AE camera settings. I've found with AE, Maya, and Softimage, you can use the same camera values and it lines up. For instance, if the lens in Maya is 20mm with a certain film size, I can match that number in AE and find success.
