You should get an option to make the Layer Style editable when importing. To make the text editable, select the layer and go to Layer > Convert to Editable Text.

didn't it used to be that PS layer styles could be imported as editable AE layer styles?
Somehow I seem to get only merged or ignore options...
Same with PS text layers, they come in as bitmaps only not editable text...
