The PS Layer Styles can only be imported as editable if you choose to import the PSD as a composition.
If you've already imported it as footage you can go to Layer > Convert to Layered Comp with the PS footage layer selected (also accessible by right clicking the layer). This should give you editable layer styles inside the converted comp.
If you then go into the new pre-comp and select the text layer there will now be a Layer > Convert to Editable Text option available (also accessible by right clicking the layer).

didn't it used to be that PS layer styles could be imported as editable AE layer styles?
Somehow I seem to get only merged or ignore options...
Same with PS text layers, they come in as bitmaps only not editable text...
Am I missing something?

Where can I see its dimensions now?
Info tab just shows percentages and positioning info.
Solid setting dialogue gives original size.
