Each machine just checks the output folder to see which images have already been rendered and then renders the next frame. If the project assets are stored on the network where each machine can see them, there's no need to collect the project. Just render to an image sequence format and check "Skip Existing Frames" in the render settings. You'd open the same project in AE on each machine with the comp queued up and just hit render. In older versions of AE having multi-processing turned on was counter-productive -- slower for some reason. Pretty rare that we have something that renders slow enough per frame to need to do this, but it's a nice option. It's kind of doing manually what render management software does automatically, but I've needed it so sporadically that it's been good enough. - Nathan On Wed, Oct 3, 2012 at 2:37 PM, Elliot Steele wrote: > Thanks everyone for your suggestions! > > I=92ve got a few different ideas now which I just need to try out. > > Elliot > > > Am 10/2/12 11:48 PM schrieb "Drew Gilmore" unter = : > > After selecting 'collect files' you should just be able to select "None > (project only)" in the drop down menu of the dialog box that comes up. After selecting 'coll= ect files' you should just be able=A0 to select "None (project onl= y)" in the drop down menu of the dialog box that comes up. That option= only sends a copy of the .aep to the watch folder. As long as the file pat= hs in the .aep are recognizable by the farm computers, no problem.

With a project with lots of source files, it still takes a long time just t= o get to that dialog box - guess it's checking to make sure everything&= #39;s still there.

Do I understand the process correctly? Is there a way of submitting jobs wi= thout collecting all the source files?

Does anyone use an alternative method (maybe using a commercial solution?) = to network render in AE?
