This is a process = I've also used. Did you know that you can automate the process using = Bridge? If you save an Illustrator Live Paint preset, then select the = image sequence in Bridge and go to Tools > Illustrator > Live = Trace.

You can also set up Actions to do = something similar which adds the option of tweaking while = processing.
