| Same thing happening here.. Double Click project panel footage, footage panel appears, period previews the footage panel.. Double click footage from the TL, LAYER panel appears, period previews TL.. The difference is the Footage vs layer panels.. if you hold Alt (Option on a Mac) while double clicking, the footage will open up in a Footage window, and it'll be what plays when you press period on the numpad. it WILL however, use the TL placement of the layer to choose where to start playing a preview from, whereas double clicking directly from the Project Panel will place the timeline marker of the footage panel at the beginning of the asset.
