I don't think it's a matter of not wanting live update, but not having a machine that can go fast enough to do it. That sounds like more of a reason to not use live update.

Check that the "live update" button is activated in the row of buttons over the timeline. Its the second from the left.

Easy question that I can’t find an answer for:

In my current Ae setup, when I drag any of the slider values (for example an X/Y/Z position value), the layer only responds after I release the mouse button. I’m not seeing the layer move/update as I drag the slider. What am I missing? Would like to see things update in realtime according to slider values.

 

I have a Matrox MX02 system that allows the Comp viewport to be seen on external HDTV. Have seen this same behavior previously in Premiere related to bug in Matrox Utils software. Could it be that?
