Depending on how it is lit, color correction may get you most of the way there.

A DP I'm working with is about to shoot a clear plastic object against an entirely white background – white cyc, white floor. The object will be suspended by wires, which I'll be removing in AE. The object itself will go from flat to inflated and so will be moving around. The shot will then be sped up, going from app. 4 minutes to maybe 6 seconds. Should the wires be white, or something obvious like black, which would make the wires easier to see?
