We tend to leave audio on all the time whether or not we have it in there. I've been burned by forgetting to render audio when needed but never from having an empty audio track or unneeded tracks. A preference would be nice to control the behavior, but I like the option to not render audio if there is none present. That way I can keep my audio turned on in the output module for the times when I need it.
