That's interesting -- 11.0.1 here (just realized I'm behind on a dot update) on OSX 10.6.8 -- It actually seems to behave differently on this setup than what you're seeing.  The current frame is rendered and displaying just fine, but I see the cache bar doing it's sorting thing (desaturated green bar turning into more saturated green) and enabling caps lock works for me to bring up the flowchart while this is in progress. Perhaps that changed in 11.0.2?  Or it may be different on OSX as well.

Hi Nathan

Thanks for the tip about Caps Lock.
I can see this works in cases where AE doesn't respond to the shift-tab because it is rendering the current frame, but caps lock doesn't solve the problem with AE not registering the shift-tab if it is sorting the cache on long comps. I still get no response if caps lock is pressed and AE is sorting cache. CS6 (11.0.2), windows 7

...on the topic of caps lock... it would be nice if AE would stop rendering immediately when the caps lock was pressed, and not like it is now where it seems like AE want to finish rendering the layer it is rendering when the caps lock is pressed. It can be quite annoying when working in renderheavy projects. But i guess i should give this as a feature request to Adobe instead of ranting here ;-)

Good idea, Nathan. I'll add that solution to the blog post that I have about this issue.
