That’s basically what I use it for but often it involves actually loading and rendering projects, applying effects, making edits and tweaks on current projects etc. esp. for ProRes deliverables.  I have a decent Core Duo machine as Hackintosh but an i7 with Thunderbolt would be better.

And Premiere has its strong points but I can’t say I’m fan. Still prefer Vegas. 12 is pretty nice, especially since it now opens Premiere and FCP projects.
