My brother taught me a "rule" of animation at an early age: Every frame takes the same amount of time. It doesn't matter how fast you or your tools are; the limit is your threshold of patience (or the client's deadline) - and you'll do everything your tools at hand allow up to that threshold.
(Yes, exceptions are easy to cite, but it's a fun overview of a somewhat true philosophy…)

That's why we switched from per hour to per job billing. Bill as if you knew what you were doing and had the right tools, so you don't penalize yourself later when you finally get there.
