And here's where everyone (Tim S?) chimes in about spending $7000 on it before the price dropped to $2500 for the Broadcast edition! Back then it could only render phong - I remember raytracing being a big announcement, forget GI!  I don't think the images were misleading, the rendering was great for it's time. Certainly Paul S was a master but you can't blame them for putting the good stuff on their galleries. The new owner is another master user of EI, a Brazilian guy, I forget the name but he's a bit of a genius. I'd love to see it work out for him.
But that John Knoll quote on the new site is a bit misleading, the days of him rendering the Star Wars reissue in EI are long gone. I don't think it'll see much use on Ep 7!
I'm likewise on C4D, mainly rendering in Maxwell which surprises and delights me every time I hit render.

You and I must have bought EI the same month. LOL. Sounds exactly like what we went through. We, too are on C4D these days.

Don't get me started - I bought EI 2.9.2 back in the day for $2500, 6 months later they dropped the price to $200 (or so) and when they wanted me to upgrade to v3.0 they had the nerve to ask for a $400 upgrade fee. Their marketing material were misleading in my option (they featured work by Paul Schbiteroff sp? - and there is no way I was getting that type of reflection or look out EI anytime soon) I switched to cinema 4d and vowed to never give another cent to EI. Of course I deserve some if not all of the blame for my purchase - I didn't try out the software (it was 1999 and downloading a whole program to try out was still a new idea) and I went against the advice of a friend who suggested C4D.

Sorry for the rant
