Since its a PCIe card (Its not a standalone processor, its a co-processor) I would say it's a step up from the 512MB-3GB available VRAM on modern GPUs. Since they all use the same x86 architecture scaling would be very easy compared to scaling on the GPU, not to mention the crappy GPU drivers.
