Have you checked the fonts? Adobe's font system is hyper-sensitive to "bad" fonts, e.g. badly ripped commercial fonts turned into free fonts by just changing their name or otehrwise technically poor fonts, usually also freeware ones. In some cases also different fonts with identical internal names can also confuse things. Weed out your fonts and try again.
