Set Matte is no good to me if I'm trying to get a matte from a text l= ayer that's moving about in the frame. Also very often i'm using some sort = of ramp/gradient/noise effect on a solid to generate a property map to plug= into Particular or Compound blur or any other filter. Again, I'm having to= precompose because these effects aren't processed before they're plugged i= nto whatever filter I'm using.
