I can get into a lot of trouble for making specific promises about features=
 in future versions, but I'll say this:

I'm rather sure that you will not see a Linux version of After Effects befo=
re you see a color swatch panel built into After Effects.

I didn't think it was a rant, maybe it was a train of thought that got de-r=
ailed ;-)

I was thinking about two separate comments, firstly that node-based composi=
ting is a top feature request, and secondly that Nuke and After Effects mig=
ht be competitors.  Although separate, I was thinking about the potential f=
or Adobe to implement node-based compositing as an attempt to compete with =
Nuke.  And I totally understand that this was not what you said!

I suspect that at least some of the people who are requesting nodes in AE a=
re wanting After Effects to become Nuke, or hold some hope that it would op=
en new markets to them.  I think this is wrong and it was to this thought -=
 which I totally understand is not what you meant - that I responded about =
the markets being different.

And I didn't mean to imply that adding nodes to After Effects would alienta=
te existing users, what I meant was that diverting resources away from feat=
ures that would be more useful would annoy existing users.  I would be real=
ly p****d if Adobe wasted resources on a linux port when we still don't hav=
e a colour swatch palette or a histogram in the curves effect.

That's what I mean by competition (Nuke). Though I don't think there's more=
 than maybe a 30% functional overlap between them. AE will never be the har=
dcore nodal 3D compositor that Nuke is, and Nuke probably isn't anyone's fi=
rst choice for text animation. Chris, you took off on a tear without actual=
ly reading what I wrote, which is pretty much the opposite of what your ran=
t assumed. I say, strengthen the things which make AE unique, which is as a=
 CREATIVE platform. Which is why I said brushes and fonts. How many other a=
pps can one create really beautiful work quickly, often without any externa=
l sources? Make it so that a generalist needs to know BOTH.
