Is there a reason you need to work in 16 and 32 when setting up a project and doing ram previews? Absolutely - most of my photographic animation techniques and effects don't display correctly in 8-bit at all, some only work in float and/or linear light. And for footage that does not, much of my work is managing bitmaps, noise, banding from multiple photographic sources. 16-bit is always a minimum for me.
