If your renders fail at the same point in time in a render, look to either corrupt footage that starts at that time, or a corruption in a plug-in. If this is the problem, substituting another footage item or removing the plug-in and re-applying it can solve the problem. Try opening another project and do some renders. If Ae renders fine, that would seem to implicate footage or a plug-in. If your renders fail at random times; no consistency, no matter what project you have open, perhaps your application is damaged. A reinstall may fix it. Or, even simpler, deleting the prefs can fix a variety of unusual application behavior, no matter what app you're running. Ae and Pr seem to be more susceptible to prefs corruption than any other app I've ever run, except perhaps FCP. This is a good reason for buying Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager, if you're on Mac. It allows you to easily save preferences for Ae, Pr, FCP, Avid MC, and related apps. You can do the same thing yourself on either platform by saving an alias of the folder that contains your prefs on your desktop, and copy a "good" version of your prefs to another location. Then, when you want to restore the prefs to that known "good" state, just drag the good version into your prefs folder, and overwrite the bad or suspect version. Other problem areas could be disk directory or other corruption on your source files or OS drive. Good luck, Jim C.
