I am looking forward for the exam as a learning process. I know that the showreel is what sell you on the market. But when I prepared for the Apple FCP Level 2 exam, It worked for me. I have learned many new things about the program and the editing too.
But of course It would be great If the employer would give you a +1 at the interview If you have any certificate. I have seen a few job offer at the UK (mandy.com) where they first question was "Do you have FCP Certificate?".
Chris: Thanks for the heads-up. I have the Apprentice book for the CS4. I guess first I should pass the Premier exam and after that try the AE.

I've never once been asked if had taken an exam (for any software); as far as I know there aren't any clients who know they exist.
