Hi Marcel,

I think that the reference to Dynamic Link and Premiere is just a red herring, i.e., I suspect that Access Violation reported by Microsoft Visual Studio and AE’s “After Effects error: could not parse mask shape on clipboard” are the only reliable clues and that AE is getting confused when it tries to cobble together an explanation for the crash – there is not much consistency in AE’s messages once it intercepts the exception.

Glad that I was able to help,

Ed

hi Ed,

you are right, I will send in a bug report on this crash. Great advise on the testing part, and if the AE team needs more input, I'll be able to give them that.

I'll also check the copying-pasting of the mask, because I know what should be in there ;)

thanks for the time you spend on it!

Found it quite strange that the dynamic link and Premiere Pro where mentioned in the crash report. Haven't used PP (or AME) on this project at all, actually just started the project 2 hours prior to the crash.

But might have to do with the jpeg file used in the project.

cheers,

Marcel van Berk

I recommend reporting it as a bug rather than asking Todd to add another task to his To Do list.  It is good policy with one of the reasons being that you can provide more details should they be needed.  For example, the AE team may question how the paths were created and how they might have gotten corrupted along the way.  I see two possible bugs: (1) AE should be popping an error regarding the masks rather than crashing and (2) how did the masks become corrupted?

During my testing, sometimes copying/pasting the paths worked OK; and sometimes AE crashed and upon restart AE would pop the message “After Effects error: could not parse mask shape on clipboard”.  The crash or no crash may have been determined by the levels at which I performed the copy then paste.

Even when copying/pasting did not crash AE, I’m not sure that the pasted paths were identical to the original, because the shape… boundaries values were different even when the Comp settings and Transform values were identical between the source comp&layer and the destination comp&layer.  And AE would not let me manually copy/paste the four boundary values successfully – AE would appear to accept the four individual values which I pasted but upon reopening the shape… dialog AE would have overridden one of the values.

Thanks Ed,

that is a big help... just couldn't figure out what the deal was with the crash.

But still, is this a new bug? Because the Mask isn't that special, just a couple of points and beziers, no special CS6 featered parts.

Should I send it in as a bug? Or will Todd pick it up from the list ;) ?

I have just deleted the layer and have started over with the image, masking and keyframing, no problems after that.

kind regards,

marcel van berk

The crash appears to be related to the masks rather than the jpg.  If you delete the masks, no crash.

hi All,

I've got a bizarre crashing scene in AE CS6.

I've cleaned out the whole project and it's one layer with transforms: position, scale and opacity keyframed, that will crash every time it's on (eye-radiobutton).

There is no real special things happening, just position move, scale (with a minus X to flip it) and an opacity that goes to zero.

I've replaced the file before, am using the file in other places with no problem.

It keeps giving me the report:

After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <3392>

<DynamicLink> <5> C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere CS6\Adobe Premiere Pro.exe

and a second window with the regular message that AE has crashed and to get technical support and the ( 0 :: 42).

I've collected it, and put it in a zip on my dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/lg80xq9fdykurqb/crashing-scene-folder.zip

It's only 1.8Mb. Maybe someone else can test it?

One more thing, I've I kill all the keyframes and turn the visibility back on, it gives me another kind of crash report:

After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: <4024>

<ae.blitpipe <2> Making New Context

(I've read Myleniums post on this issue, and changed my windows settinges, still crashing ;( )

Thanks alot,

kind regards,

Marcel van Berk
