The 570 is, bang for buck, the best card we’ve tested with Beauty Box. The performance of the 690 (using one gpu, so a 680 really) wasn’t significantly faster than the 570 in AE. This may be because if you’ve got 4 cores all rendering, probably only one of them at a time is rendering on the GPU. The GPU can only handle so much. Otherwise it doesn’t seem the 600 series is that much faster than the 500 series for CUDA/OpenCL tasks. I know for gaming the 600 series is great, but I haven’t seen a lot of evidence that it’s all that in our testing or in other tests using video apps.

Fwiw… just did a blog post about putting a 570 in a Mac:

The performance was good, but it seemed slower than on the PC. I would’ve expected it to blow away the ATI 5770 and mostly it kept pace with it in AE. In Premiere it was a different story. The 570 was significantly faster. In part I’m sure because of the Mercury engine, but also I don’t think Premiere is as good at multiprocessing as AE, so more frames get rendered on the GPU. AE is around 3-4 times faster than Premiere for rendering out Beauty Box on a clip. Which is why we recommend rendering it in AE and then cutting it in whatever editor you use.

Jim

Thank you.\

A note about the 690…

We ran into a bunch of problems with Premiere and had to disable the multiple GPUs, essentially making it a 680. Judging from what I’ve read online, we’re not the only one, so if you’re using Premiere you might have issues with the 690. (and you might not, seemed to be folks that it worked fine for) We were primarily testing it with Beauty Box, but even with BB uninstalled Premiere still had problems. For Beauty Box itself we’re not supporting multiple GPUs at this time. It’s not that straight forward to support it, so if you buy a 690, just make sure you can return it if your system/apps don’t play nicely with it.

i'm surprized that 480 1.5gb came faster than a 670 4gb & 680 2Gb.. wasn't this purely a GPU test?

im currently using my GTX card headless and drive the monitor with the ATI card it came with.

The 660 is pretty similar to a 670 so it would probably be slightly slower than a 670 listed here if in a similar machine

has anyone used the GTX 660ti 3GB w AE and has any comments recommendations or not?
Also have used your Kepler cards to drive 3-4 monitors successfully?
TIA

currently testing out a GTX690 in my macpro

i had an this extruded shape layer model so i did a quick camera move and rendered out 3 seconds at 1080 in 10 minutes.

the renderer can make some really nice imagery plus it has the benefit of all being animatable right in AE the way you are used to working

I finally had a chance to play with the new 3d capabilities of CS6. Heres the link, all the animation was done in after effects, the only thing not done in ae was the actual modeling of the snow globe which I did in 3d max.

I give after effects a big thumbs up, as usual, there were lots of changes and it was so much easier and faster to change and render than if I did it all in 3d max.
