Re: [AE] Ray traced 3D extrusion render time I have an older Mac Pro with an Nvidia GeForce 8800 GT. 512 MB Vram.

I’m guessing this is why my performance in AE CS6 is a sluggish as Peters.

Is there a “recommended” card to get as an upgrade?

Thanks.

But I'll answer it again one more time clearly.

You need a new computer. The graphics card in your laptop is too slow to perform raytracing, therefore cs6 has to use the CPU. The ray tracer does not perform quickly on such an old laptop CPU either, hence your long render times. Its built to run on fast modern GPU s. Understand?

Hello Guys,
I am exploring the new ray traced 3D extrusion feature in AE6. I am very excited about it
and was a little irritated because of the enormous render time (over 5hours for only 10s)
I was irritated because after watching Brian Maffitt's 'Global performance cache' tutorial on
Adobe TV http://tv.adobe.com/watch/learn-after-effects-cs6/global-performance-cache/
I was under the impression that the days of long renders are over.
Am I missing something here?? I am running AE6 on a MacBook Pro Mid 2009, 2.66Ghz,
dual Core with 8 GB RAM
You can watch the movie on:

I am grateful for any suggestion
Thank you
Peter
