Alright then. That leaves me with the only reason for upgrade being to remain compatible with my school :/ On well, thanks Mylenium.

Not really. In theory some of that fast previews stuff should accelerate a few things as should the cache, but on a laptop none of that will play out due to limitations in disk I/O and well, in light of problems you will find yourself turning off/ not using these features... There's a reason why this post is still popular after 9 months and is one of last year's most popular on my blog:

Hi all,

I'm currently planning to move from CS4 Master Suite to CS6 Production Premium. I've got the cost part settled (Education versions have no upgrade discount), but I'm wondering about the performance. If I move from CS4 After Effects and Premiere to CS6, will I see any notable change in performance, assuming my hardware does not change? My primary machine is a laptop with a 512MB ATI card, so I don't expect any acceleration from the Mercury Playback engine nor will I be using raytracing. I'm worried about, will the new features slow me down via bloating? Is the new version overall faster?
Thanks!
