Thankfully my laptop has 8GB of RAM, not 4, so I am looking forward to 64bit in AE. (and the boot drive is an SSD). I've been following the posts on the new cache so I know not to expect magic, but I will test it out to form my own opinion. Thanks for the discussion!

My words exactly. Going to 64bit helps, but CS6 is not necessarily a step forward. It's always like it's all nice and impressive as long as you have two layers in your comp and scrub them with fast preview and then as soon as you start nesting stuff or apply certain effects, expressions or time-remapping it folds on itself and gets those cache issues. And some plug-ins like Particular don't work relaibly in CS6 to this day (regardless of whoever is to blame for that...)

CS6 is bit buggy with disk cache and RAM previews, but CS5.5 is a huge, massive, night/day difference primarily because it’s 64-bit which matters even on 4GB laptop but if you’re running AE, surely you can run it a system with at least 8GB of RAM.

But despite the bugs in CS6, I still run it more than CS5.5 though the region of interest/MP bug drives me insane.

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.
