That is pretty nuts. I have stuck my fingers in a running cpu fan by accident before. Didn't even break the skin. And those run at much higher rpm than any case fans. Nanny state indeed...

From what I have read, is that the part of the legislation that Apple has decided to pull the Mac Pro over has to do with fans. I guess all fans in computers MUST have guards over them, whether they are accessible from the outside or not. BEcause so many people open the computer while running and stick there finger in the fans….. So in order to continue to sell the mac pro , the would need to put guards over all the internal fans. Since the mac pro is on it's last leg anyway, they don't want to incur the expense of redesigning the the old chassis.
I still think we will see a replacement near the end of the year, whether it will be a full blown tower, who knows.

While Apple have indicated they're going to do something...I'm just not confident it will be all that compelling for a user like me, given what I know about chipset development combined with Apple's clear design and engineering trends.
...so this one appears driven by regulatory requirements the current model doesn't meet and not having anything new to ship at this time.
