The nVidia Quadro 4000 for Mac is the only qualified card for Mac. But, I think I recall reading that there's another one or two that will work if you hack a package content file.
The best price for a 4000 is still around $800, last time I looked.
I'm with you on ML. I'm staying with 10.7.5 as long as possible. Pr works just fine for me. I have the Quadro 4000 in my MacPro3,1.

Color breaks with 10.7 and above, I believe. I've been wanting to move to Da Vinci but the $1,000 is a hurdle I can't jump over right now. Anyway, it's late, been working all day and I'm losing my mind.
