You can use a Red Rocket but we don't use Red Rocket with our Davinci suites. Instead we use a Red Rocket in a suite that is designed for doing digital dailies, debayering Red to ProRes for the editor to use. We bought our first Red Rocket a few years ago and as I said, we seem to burn them out. They run really hot and if I was asked today do you need a Red Rocket, I might say no.

Davinci can do the debayering of the Red files in GPU. Now we tend to work at quarter resolution for say a feature film. But remember if you are working with say Epic Red at 5K, a quarter resolution image viewed at HD, doesn't look too bad and we're talking real time with several nodes of correction. Once you spill over and lose real time, say the GPU drops below 24, then you can designate shots, user selected, to render. These files remain rendered and real time, regardless of number of nodes, etc, until you close the session.

When you render the final movie out you turn up your Red resolution to full premium and the renders out at 2K or HD will drop down to 4-6 frames per second, but still not bad compared to what we've been used to over the years.

Davinci will handle all the calculations with your new Cuda card.

I haven't been following Resolve super closely.  Will Resolve use a CUDA card to accelerate Red debayering as well, or do you need a Rocket for that?
