I have one OCZ vertex 4 in a tower thats fine. the 3gb SATA connector is the main limitation.

in the laptop I have a samsung 840 256gb on a 6gb SATA connection that does 500+mb/sec. just amazing.

you need to read specs carefully. for example the samsung 840's have at least 2 different versions : the cheap ones that only write at 250-300mb/sec and the more expensive ones that do a full 500+mb/sec write. worth the extra $ so be careful in what you get. I think they should have completely different model numbers because they really are different products. so that extra letter in the SKU can be all the difference in the world.

Avoid OCZ.  Samsung 830's are good if you can find them.  840's are ok, but not as good as the 830's were.  I wouldn't get anything smaller than a 256GB.

We're looking to spiff up our Mac towers by installing SSDs for the system/program/cache drives.

Before clicking "Buy", we were curious if anyone had experiences with brands that have let them down or that seem to be particularly good value?
