There's a reason that layer styles come where they do in the= render order: they function the same as blending modes, taking the layer a= nd the underlying composite as the two inputs. Several versions ago, After Effects used to use Photoshop layer styles thro= ugh a conversion to effects, and we got a lot of requests to process them n= atively as they are now.
