Note that converting layer styles to effects would lose several features of layer styles. There's a reason that layer styles come where they do in the render order: they function the same as blending modes, taking the layer and the underlying composite as the two inputs. Several versions ago, After Effects used to use Photoshop layer styles through a conversion to effects, and we got a lot of requests to process them natively as they are now.
