Aah, the eternal question…

Every broadcaster has wildly different requirements…

As I understand it, many of the requirements are due to foreign distribution of domestic content…  while 16X9 screens are fairly pervasive in this country…  if a show gets distributed internationally, particularly in developing countries, there is still a lot of legacy equipment floating around…  and for many shows, international distribution represents enough of an income generator to still cause us all the headache….

I think CNN and the other news channels have more realtime/automated ability to customize the crawls depending on the broadcast target

Can anyone explain why we still need title/action-safe? Is the bezel on today's displays still so variable that this is necessary? I don't understand why it's a requirement to stay within title safe on spots while CNN can do a headline crawl that's bleeding off the screen...
