Stephen:

I had typed up a big formula that I thought might be worth trying but I have no confidence that it will work. I erased it and want to as you if you have 10 seconds of footage I could try out. As you've mentioned, our conversions are usually from 29.97 where there is extra temporal information to work with and not 30p footage.

We do a fair amount of conversion of frame rates here, especially when we conform documentaries, as they can often have 3 or 4 different frame rates with stock shots and different cameras used to shoot footage.

Would it be possible for you to post a shot on your ftp and I could try a couple of experiments. Anything else I might suggest may not be worthwhile without testing a theory first.

Anyone want to chime on anything new for 30 frames progressive to 24 frames progressive conversion. This is for theatrical, so artifacts are an issue. I’ve got Magic Bullet Frames, Twixtor, Premiere, AE as likely tools. I’ve done lots of 60i to 24p but my first theatrical 30p to 24p. Or more precisely (for Chris M.), 29.97p to 24.000fps J.

I wondering if a bit of Revision Motion Blur might help with strobing issue but it’s a bit scary as it can artifact and this is 90 minute project.

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.
