Thanx for the thoughts -- think it is resolved.
Disks play on 3 out of 6 of my dvd players.
Blanks from near the top of a stack of TYGO3 Taiyo YUden 16 x dvd-r's
Other disks I burned yesterday had same issue.
Using toast to copy the original burned disk or to burn a disk image exported from DVD SP using build did not work at first. Verification was OK.
Then I tossed in a CDR lens cleaner and reburned OK. So Stuart's guess of a dying burner was closest to the truth.
UGH -- what a time sink.

As Jim says, try media from a different package. I once bought a stack of Sony DVDs that turned out to be about 50% coasters. They were made in Malaysia. I have read that disks from Japan and Taiwan are likely to be better quality. My current fave: Verbatim -R, from Frys.
Also consider making a disk image in DVD-SP, and then use Disk Utility to burn that image to disks. You can set the burn speed, and tell it to verify the disk after burning. (don't know if these options are available inside DVD-SP, haven't done it that way in a while) Internet rumors suggest that using neither the fastest or slowest burn speed gives better results.
Plus if you have a disk image, you can take it to a different machine to see if that burner is any better.
And check your disks for scratches before and after burning. I've had disks that seem to come with scratches.

Do you have some other media on hand to try? Maybe switch from -R to +R or vice versa?
My experience is, the cheaper the player, the more likely it is to play all disks.

Are you burning at a high speed? If you are, try burning at the slowest
speed your software allows. When you reburned did you use the same media or
a different brand. If the second burn was on the same brand, try a different
brand. Do you have a different burner you can try? I assume this is a
single-side disc? Could be a bad batch of media or a dying burner I suppose.

Subject: [IMUG] OT DVD-SP DVD plays on some machines but not others
Hi
I just burned an installation DVD (Five tracks with audio 7.2 mbps SD, auto
starting, no menus). It plays on my Sony DVP-NS 57P, and gives a load error
on my Toshiba D-R 400 and my Sony NC 85H. A reburned disk has the same
behavior, so it does not seem to be media.
I've burned numerous disks in this format and never see the issue before.
Any clues?
Thanks.
