You really have to kill AE, before changing anything in the Prefer= ences, because AE will keep on writing to it, while closing AE.

And another tip, in case you didn't know, in the General= tab of the Preferences there is a button at the bottom, that you can click= to locate the Preferences file.
Then close AE, change the settin= g V to something you like and it will have been added... trying to add a VI= 's will not work.

Make sure to save and close the TXT file, before openin= g AE.

Those presets toward the top tell After Effects what number of GB to offer = in the menu. Change whichever ones you want.

I suspect that Stephen has an entry like this:

"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset V" =3D "6.000= 000"

thx Todd,
that's the one, just have to figure out now which one to change ;)
could you give me a hint ??

["MP - CS5 - 4"]
"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Index" =3D "4"<= br> "MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset I" =3D "0.750= 000"
"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset II" =3D "1.00= 0000"
"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset III" =3D "1.5= 00000"
"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset IV" =3D "2.00= 0000"
"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset V" =3D "3.000= 000"
"MP - CPUs To Leave Free" =3D "2"
"MP - Enable" =3D "1"
"MP - Foreground Process Background Multiplier2" =3D "1.2000= 00"
"MP - Foreground Process Fragmentation Limit CS5" =3D "0.900= 000"
"MP - Foreground Process Min Allocation" =3D "0.400000"=
"MP - Fragmentation Limit Per Background Process2" =3D "0.95= 0000"

Or should I add this:
"MP - Allocation Per Background Process Preset VI" =3D "6.00= 0000"

thx!

It's not a hack or secret. You just modify a settings= in the preferences file. The menu in the After Effects Preferences dialog = box has a few preset values, but you can change what those menu items are.<= br>
If I recall correctly, the entries in the preference file begins with "= ;MP - Allocation for background process".

hi Stephen,

how did you get AE to support 6 Gb RAM per core?
is it a hack/secret edit?

Mine only allows me to use 3Gb max per core.

I've got the 32core with 64Gb of RAM.

even if I turn down the amount of cores, the max. RAM doesn't go up....=
