SIGGRAPH tends to skew more heavy tech/nuts and bolts of graphics creation.  Where as the Motion Conference skews much more toward creative process and inspiration.  So it all really depends on what you are hoping to get out of your experience.  If you're really into the nitty gritty of particle simulation and 3d motion tracking, etc, SIGGRAPH is probably more for you.  There is definitely a HOW-TO component to the Motion Conference, but your not likely to drill into the finer points of ambient occlusion and subsurface light scattering there…

Bumping this topic to generate some feedback. I'm looking into going to SIGGRAPH again this year. I've been 5 times in the past 15 years. I always get a lot out of it but just thought I would ask how it might be compared to the Motion Conference. I know that conference will be favored on this list but I'm especially keen to hear from someone who has been to both shows. My tastes lean toward VFX and 3D with an interest in things like particles and simulation over pure motion design.

Anyone care to share experiences?
