The 3930 wasnt really on my radar. I've been weighing the fx-8350 against the i7-3770, which in multi-threaded apps, the amd cpu seems to be an option worth considering.
This machine will be primarily to replace an aging clovertown Mac Pro at home. Now you've really got me thinking about the 3930.  if I can get work to cover half...

In terms of price to performance ratio the Intel core i7 3930k blows any amd chip out of the water. Pure thread count is not necessarily the best indicator of efficiency. Look at some benchmarks before you buy. You may spend a little more but the performance boost could be worth it. Especially when you factor in upgrade costs in buying slower tech. My two cents.

I'm building a pc whose tasks will be primarily ae and c4d work and rendering. After some research, I'm leaning to Amd's fx-8350 for the CPU. Has anyone been giving these newish CPUs a good mograph workout yet? 8 threads at <$200 is looking pretty good. Thoughts? Thanks guys!
