As long as I have some working version of= AE my little world's in order. For now I'm gladly using CS5.5 and have CS6 installed (still shunning it like the plague, though) and whether I'll ever= have need for CS7 and beyond I don't know yet. If I ever should need some of the= new stuff, joining Creative Cloud is more than affordable and should be a no-br= ainer because then I'll have the genuine need and money for it. The rest doesn't really matter. You may have "owned" the software in the past, but what good= does it do you, if you can no longer use it because it's not compatible to contemporary operating systems or Adobe pull the plug on the activation ser= vers? As far as I'm concerned, it has always been a non-issue. I'm more concerned= with the technical side, that is how regularly the application manager and updat= ers fail, but that's another matter. Maybe it may become a problem at some poin= t in the future when Adobe are phasing out older versions and forcing you to upd= ate e.g. from CS6 to CS9, but well, as already mentioned, there may be other technical imperatives that force that decision upon you long before that...
