The world's not coming to an end. As long as I have some working version of AE my little world's in order. For now I'm gladly using CS5.5 and have CS6 installed (still shunning it like the plague, though) and whether I'll ever have need for CS7 and beyond I don't know yet. If I ever should need some of the new stuff, joining Creative Cloud is more than affordable and should be a no-brainer because then I'll have the genuine need and money for it. The rest doesn't really matter. You may have "owned" the software in the past, but what good does it do you, if you can no longer use it because it's not compatible to contemporary operating systems or Adobe pull the plug on the activation servers? As far as I'm concerned, it has always been a non-issue. I'm more concerned with the technical side, that is how regularly the application manager and updaters fail, but that's another matter. Maybe it may become a problem at some point in the future when Adobe are phasing out older versions and forcing you to update e.g. from CS6 to CS9, but well, as already mentioned, there may be other technical imperatives that force that decision upon you long before that...
