There are a lot of misconceptions about Creative Cloud. And many seem to
be filling gaps in knowledge with fear. Hey, I too was skeptical about the
Cloud initially. Now that I've been on it for a year, I love it.

Some common misconceptions debunked (including ones I previously held):

You run it from your local computer; not over your internet connection.

You don't need a constant connection; just to check in occasionally
(ideally, once a month, but a Todd has pointed out there's a grace
period).

The downloader and installer for the Cloud actually work better (and
faster) than any other Adobe installer in recent memory. (And no, I don't
have T3; I live in the mountains in a poor, less-populous state and have
less bandwidth than many or most of you.)

Your current "permanent" license copies will keep working as long as your
computer and OS allow them to. (Heck, I still have 4.1 and 5 - not CS4 and
CS5, but v4.1 and v5 - running on an ancient laptop for those really old
projects.)

Adobe has promised Cloud users to several years of past Cloud versions, so
as time goes on, if you really need to run an older version, you may well
be able to. (Still not clear on precisely how that's going to work, as to
date there's only been one Cloud version so far, but enough Adobe folks
have taken pains to reassure me of this that I'm willing to trust them for
now.)

Yes, it's a subscription rather than a pay-once model. But the pricing in
the US is very, very reasonable compared to the previous pay-once pricing.
And to be brutally frank, a lot of freelancers & self-employed could use
help in budgeting for periodic expenses like software upgrades. Oh, and we
can install one Cloud "account" on two computers.

What the Cloud is pure hell for is those creating training and support
materials, as the concept of "version" just got really fuzzy, and Adobe
can potentially cut off the "long tail" on sales to those holding onto
older versions at any time - but that's another discussion, and one that
doesn't effect many or most of you.

I'm not going to pretend moving to the subscription Cloud model is all
upside and no downside. But after living with it for a year, I'm far more
comfortable with it than I was before I actually tried it. Really.
