The "activate periodically" is about as intrusive as your OS checking to see if there are any updates.. honesty.. on my PC i don't even see a dialogue asking me to check for activation... it just does it..

also.. Todd and others on the AE team have said, point blank, that older versions of any software released on CC will always be available..

For instance.. say I'm working on a huge project that will be done in 3 months, and the new version of AE CC comes out..   I can opt not to download it or install it.. or I can download and install it along side the current version I'm using, and have both versions functional.. so I can start playing with the new features without worrying whether or not my old projects will still work the same way in the new AE version..

5 years down the road, that older version would still be available, (for some reason) , and still accessible to download and run via CC..

Also, the world is ever changing.. DSL has sort of hit its peak and been declining in a lot of major areas, and will trickle down to other areas within the next few years.

Already cable is offering speeds that are much faster, and fiber is becoming more readily available.. Heck.. Mobile phones can reach faster speeds than most people's at home connections sometimes.. you don't think that pipe will eventually fill up with desktop traffic? I don't have a T3 line at home, but I do have a Fiber Optic 250Mbps  upload and download connection at home as a utility that I pay about $120 a month for.. no limits...  I do understand that limits are a burden, but you have to decide whether that's something you want to deal with when you enroll with an ISP. and alot your bandwidth accordingly.  I know I'm in a gifted spot right now, in terms of ISP availability, but it's beginning to happen in more and more places.

I'm just a lowly at-home freelancer, who sometimes has to make things stretch from month to month when no work is coming in.. but $50 for CC and $100 for Internet are considered staple utilities to me.. right up there with the light bill or food on the table.. They definitely aren't the first bill to go late if I can't afford something, and $150/month is easily made by even a small project.

I'm not trying to convince you to change your mind or anything.. I just wanted to clarify the situation a bit, as people's emotions about the change-over tend to cloud their view on what's actually going down, and what our future looks like as an industry.


Also... 2-3 years of CC monthly payments still equals out to much less than buying into the full Creative Suite Perpetual license software right now... plus you aren't having to save up that huge chunk of money, and instead can treat it like a utility.

It will be a cold day in a very warm place.

I've been an Adobe customer since 1992. I no longer own any s/w versions that qualify me for upgrades. Apparently that will remain so.

Cloud, schmoud.

And as to why someone wouldn't want to d/l gigabytye-plus installers: ever heard of data limits? Ever heard of DSL?

I just love people who assume that everyone's got megabucks in disposable income and is sitting on a T3 connection. Such arrogance.
