> FCPX ($300 per 5 seats) or Lightworks to teach editing.
FCPX to teach professional editing is a terrible, awful idea of the worst kind. Okay, maybe a bit melodramatic, but I have a new intern helping out here who learned on FCPx and can’t translate much if anything to any other editing app. Plus you need almost no upfront video knowledge to use it (frame rates, pixel aspect, interlacing etc.) so they don’t learn that either.
I assume most smart schools will wise up to that at some point.

A film is – or should be – more like music than like fiction. It should be a progression of moods and feelings. The theme, what’s behind the emotion, the meaning, all that comes later.
