I had to u= se Photoshop Elements a few years ago and thought it was fine for what I wa= s doing.

Plus, the handy Adobe Lightroom will remain available separately.

Really? I used an earlier version of this. =A0It's no= t close to being a "substitute for Photoshop". =A0But your collea= gue may only be using some of the primary features of the software. =A0 =A0= It'd be easier to compare the few features Pixelmator has that are similar to Photoshop than list what's= missing.

It was interesting software inasmuch as it was= written specifically for Mac OS, but that's about it, but then so was = GIMP (also a non-starter). The painting was glitchy, and lots of developmen= t of tools for little kids. =A0Honestly, if iMovie and iPhoto work covers h= is needs, then it could be a good solution.

More work for Photoshop artists.
More artists= for Photoshop work.
More 3rd party dev for community too.

what competitors? Nuke? at $4,000 per seat? Motion aka iMo= vie: animation edition?

=A0I see where you're coming from, but t= here is nothing even remotely like AE for our market, in terms of similar p= rice and features.

After seeing another of those doomsday forum threads about = the Adobe Creative Cloud (this on CGtalk.com), someone mentioned Hitfilm 2 UItim= ate (!!!) as an alternative to AE. I downloaded a trial on my old home comp= uter just to check it out.

Well... it= has a clear inspiration from AE in how it is built up UI wise, and in feat= ures and implementation of these they have copied the most popular AE plugi= ns like Element 3d, Optical Flares, Keylight, Particular, colorista (v1), i= t is bundled with a version of Mocha. It even has simple builtin editor, so= mething i have wanted in AE for a loooong time, and if that is not enough t= here is a Dynamic Link like feature to Sony Vegas. ... And it is all mostly= accellerated via the GPU so in many cases realtime 1080p playback with eff= ects even on my old home computer.

I must say i was pretty impressed with what i saw.
...BUT...
i could never see myself or any pro AE users i kn= ow use this instead of AE, it is lacking sooo much of the UI refinement tha= t AE worked up during the last 20 years, although that also still could use= some polish. Hitfilm is missing too many features that we as pro AE users = rely on everyday.

Right now it is Windows only, but they have just announ= ced a kickstarter to get it ported to mac too. Coincidence that this was an= nonced right after the the Adobe CC annoncement? ;-)

I just wish that AE had mor= e of the realtime playback of Hitfilm. :-D.. but i will stay with AE either= way, thank you!...
