Sounds reasonable to have one as a cache drive, but I wouldn't rely on one as an OS drive or critical storage. Also sounds like there are driver issues. On the same topic and asking the experts, what's your take nowadays on the Revodrive, pci SSD, is it still worth it? any pitfalls?
I found an 230 OCZ OC= ZSSDPX-1RVD0230 for 170euros.

Anders, I would really recommend a new system instead of upgrading a system that's at the end of its life. You may see it as saving money, but it is only delaying an inevitable upgrade, and then you have sunk money into an old machine and will still have to purchase a new machine eventually. Not to mention that having two machines is a huge speed up for any workflow, you can have one box rendering or encoding while you work away on the other.

That said: I think 120 gb should be enough for a cache for the kinds of projects you have described. Instead of buying a 250, I'd spend the money on a second drive and run them in raid 0. This nearly doubles your I/O speeds. The only drawback is if one drive fails you lose the info on both. However if you are using it mainly for cache and temp projects, and back up the info to your main hdd that shouldn't be an issue.

The speed difference between a core i7 930 and the 3770k is immense. We are talking about nearly a 100% boost in render speed from the cpu upgrade alone...

Great Robert,
I think a fresh install of Windows is in place soon.
I don=EF=BF=BDt know if images can be attached in AE= Mail list of screen shots, but I looked up what my current upgraded disk setup is (from disk management tool):
Disk 0: 140 GB NTFS (G: )
Disk 1: 2 TB divided into two partitions (E: and F:
)
Disk 2: 1 TB NTFS
Disk 3: 60 GB SSD (windows & software)
I also have around 10 TB of external USB disk space but I guess that is nothing I can use to speed things up =3D"Winking

I could re-install the SSD and get one more SSD for cache, but there are no disk connectors for any more HDDs so one of the other above would need to be removed ;-(

Then it=EF=BF=BDs a question what generation of SSD t= o get, would a 120 GB be enough for cache or 240?

Thanks Todd & Mylenium,

That makes sense, how much SSD disk cache is recommended for AE? I use my only SSD for Windows as it=EF=BF=BDs only 60 GB = and I thought that wasn=EF=BF=BDt enough = for disk cache?
(one problem is that I=EF=BF=BDve o= nly got 4GB free on the SSD)
It would be great to know the importance of RAM vs SSD cache vs CPU speed and cores, is there a performance calculator for that online?

Thanks
Anders

Get that SSD some more room, 4GB is way too little free space. Normally a SSD needs some extra headroom to perform at its best... or that is what i have been told by more knowledgeable people.
=EF=BF=BD
I have set up my AE to use 500GB on a 3x256GB SSD raid-0, and that fills up pretty quickly, so i would recommend to setup the cache to as much as you can afford. :-)
Actually it is always full on 500GB, but AE is nice enough to just delete the oldest cache when it runs out of the allocated amount. Right Todd?
