may I say :)
if you want a spinning HD, get a 3TB drive. why ? speed. I have a 3X3TB internal array and its doing 500mb/sec all day long, about as fast as a good SSD. simply put, a 3TB drive has the bits smaller and closer together on the media and it spits them out faster because of this. bare drives can hits 150mb/sec as opposed to 2TB's are 100-120mb/sec. the price difference between 2 and 3TB drives is $20-$30 so its a no brainer to get 50% more space at those prices. forget 1TB drives unless they are for project back ups.
another reason to get a new mobo is 6gb SATA. no point in having a 500mb/sec SSD and its limited by a 3gb SATA port on the mobo.. which is the case for my mac pro tower vs my newer laptop. However the SSD is still way faster than the original system drive.
240/256gb SSD's are the sweet spot right now for space / capacity. Im running my AE cache set to 60-80gb. on a 256gb SSD apps and OS are using about 100gb, the cache comes and goes using another 30-60 leaving me me with 100-60gb of free space depending.
