You're totally right Teddy.

In fact, the project has been living with me for 6 years, at various stage of preproduction and even with a real french animation company at one time (but I said no 2 weeks before the company got almost bankrupt and choose to save it's only current project).

And the plan is to produce a 10 minute demo of it to go get more funding, like Kickstarter and governmental money for instance. Meanwhile I've got some creative ideas on how to get some extra funds, like selling the scripts for exemple, maybe tutorials too, and other not AE related, but this won't be enough to do the whole thing. Maybe getting some sponsorship from hardware / software companies could help things running more smoothly, I'll make sure to give it a shot too. The cool thing is, because I already spent 6 years on it, finding out that I'm more motivated than ever to do it after so much time, and finding out that my 2 partners in crime involved from scratch also are, it makes me confident that we'll be able to produce something out of it. Using Story Boarding to get a rough cut at each screenplay revision along with the designs being imported in AE gives a very cool impression of moving forward at a nice pace, even with my poorly recorded voice over for all the characters. It keeps people motivated, let's hope it'll stay that way for a good run.

Cheers,

Seb

Thats awesome, and good luck!

That being said, Ive seen or been involved in several projects like this, especially when I was starting out. Sadly most of them failed. I would highly recommend starting with a short film of 10 - 15 minutes first, as a proof of concept. If you can pull that together not only will you learn a lot about your ideal workflow, but you can use it to sell your idea for more funding. Think kickstarter. Jumping right into a feature film you can get lost and lose focus on the scope of the project. A feature length animation is an incredible undertaking even for a fully equipped team of fifty people, let alone one person, no matter how intense their motivation and focus. Ambition is great, but stay realistic about your goals. My 2c

Hi everyone,

sorry for the bit of self promo but hopefully, there also some interesting stuff in this mail.

For the promo part: I've just released a new script that let's you import a screenplay right inside After Effects. This is a script I'm developing for my own movie project (a bit more about that in a sec) but willing to push it forward beyond my own scope. You can check it out here: http://aescripts.com/story-boarding

Now about that movie project. After following Stephen van Vuuren Imax in a basement film project, I've decided to make my very own feature film length animation movie, not I'm my basement, but in my living room. I've been saving some money for it and I'm deep through preproduction, finalizing the fourth draft of the screenplay, getting the first designs and building custom tools for AE as it will be solely done in AE, PS and other Adobe CC apps.

I was wondering the best route to go to get some additional funding, and I've found that for now, I could do it that way: release on aescripts all the new tools I'm developing, and re-invest all the money I make from it right into the project, to help pay for licences, plugs, gear and more importantly, to be able to pay my friend and lead designer for a few month in full time.

So any dime you spend on my scripts (http://aescripts.com/authors/s-z-0-9/sebastien-perier/) will go toward what I call my life project, and I hope to have it done and release it in about 4 years. Yep, will be a long run.

Script Boarding is the first tool specificaly designed for this project that I release, and worry not, I won't bother you here with every script I'll release, that was a one time shame attempt for spotlight.

Hope you'll like it, and hope to show you the progress as my journey in the wonderfull wolrd of self funded and self produced goes on.

Cheers,

Seb
