You are not unwise to make a connection between the last item installed and new problems cropping up.
I've noticed that most of my kernel panics happen after updating drivers, either for a video card, or HBA, etc.
If you weren't having issues before you updated, I don't see the harm in rolling back. nVidia keeps an archive of driver installers on their site.

Since updating the driver, when launching AE it sits at the cleaning up raytraced 3D for a long time. It use to only do this the first time after a driver update. Now it is everytime, and yesterday I launched AE no less than 30 times. Should I just roll back the driver?
Side note: I can't keep AE running all day because I render my stuff out to image
sequences then bring those into Sony Vegas to do a mix and if AE is running, Vegas will crash 100% of the time when I go to render. It's frustrating and I blame Vegas, it's the only program I run that crashes.
